Here is what we had to work with during this kitchen project. The cabinets needed to be white but even the most magical white paint was not going to cover up the Dixie May western finish on these babies. Q: What’s a girl to do?

We decided to recycle our old cabinets by adding bead board and framing the doors.
Here is a side by side comparison of before and after. We love the results!

We came in under $2000 on this project by recycling our cabinets and being selective with the products we used. Yeah, us!

Hi, I have your exact oak and can’t stand it. We had never considered painting white but now think it is what we should do!! Can you please tell me a little more about how you painted over the oak and added the bead board to the doors. It all looks so NICE! thanks
I absolutely LOVE the cabinets with the beadboard it looks so clean an updated. I have the exact same cabinets in our house and I plan on doing exactly the same thing that you have done. I have a question though when you put the moulding on to frame in the beadboard, did you router the moulding so that the door would fit into it? Or did you just put it on top of the cabinet? I hope I am explaining myself clearly enough lol.
