Sneak Peek and a Winner

Sneak Peek and a Winner

We have been running around like a bunch of headless chickens around here!

BUSY! BUSY!   We had to move 75% of our house out to get some new luxury vinyl tile flooring in!  Don’t get me wrong, we have been SO EXCITED about it!  But we still haven’t gotten everything back in place quite yet ( I really think it might take me another month or so!  To get back to normal, but somehow I think I am really slow at these things, more than the average human…)

I just have to show you a little bit of the flooring… our installer was amazing.  If you are local to Utah county and need a good flooring installer ask me and I will get you his info.

He did an amazing job, especially with our HUGE rock fireplace, here is just a hint of him starting the very first row. I’ll tell you more about the install next week:

Living Room Flooring 055

Ready for the scary part?  Check out our before (below).  We’ve been living with a hodge-podge of flooring finishes for months.  The foam tile was a life saver with these crazy kiddos, but it was a little too much in a loud way… ya know.  And don’t even ask about the kitchen that is now finally functioning, but definitely not even really started, let alone beautiful… oh well, such is the life of a chronic remodeler.  Yes I am chronic, it never stops apparently!

Living Room Flooring 002

But check out the difference just a few hours into the installation!  AMAZING!  I LOVE it. It has a great distinct wood grain texture, and BEAUTIFUL colors to choose from.   It looks so much like real wood, they are large single planks with a slight chamfered edge on the planks that really help make it look like real flooring.   It actually took me about 3 weeks to narrow down my choice because I liked all the samples that I had.  I finally went with Engage Select Plank Woodburn Hickory by Metroflor.

Etta and I did a few victory laps half way through the install.  We were too excited not too!

Living Room Flooring 068

So some quick details (but I will tell you more next week)

It is SO beautiful!  It is a Luxury Vinyl Tile product, which is one of the hottest type of flooring right now.   May sound like a mouthful, but it is basically a wood look (or tile) vinyl product that clicks together (professional installation recommended)  It went in SO fast, the longest part was patching the holes or cracks in the concrete subfloor.

I decided to go with this vinyl option mostly because of the easy of care.   We had wood floors in our last house and with kids it was a bit of a nightmare.  Life with kids calls for water spills, milk splatters and lots of cracker crumbs, so this super durable vinyl, is so much easier to clean.  And I don’t have a panic attack when the kids drop a whole pitcher of orange juice on the floor (and yes that has already happened), even if I may lose my temper a little, at least it is not for fear of destroying my flooring.

The good news is, that in just 2 weeks we are hosting a giveaway… details to come, so be sure to check back if you need some new flooring in your house!

p.s.Thank you to everyone who entered our $600 Pot of Gold Giveaway.  Karen Chaplin is the lucky winner!

It looks AMAZING! Out of curiosity, how does it feel? Does it pass as wood or does it feel more like vinyl? How do you think dog nails would impact these floors?? You’ve definitely made me curious!!

Danielle, I will posting more about the flooring really soon! But just to answer you really quickly, it is commercial grade, so it should be able to handle a lot of wear. And not sure about how to answer the wood question. It is similar to my floating wood floor in my last house….? So yes and no.

Love the new floor! And, you’re right, your installer is amazing. The fireplace would have stumped me for sure. We put down vinyl last year in my voice studio and dining room. It is so easy to clean. No complaints from us at all. Thanks for sharing. Wishing you a pretty weekend. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

So is this the same vinyl tile that is sticky on that back? Or is it literally a snap together like laminate?

      March 12, 2013

Kally, it is a floating floor that snaps together. No gluing or sticky backing. Supper easy.

I am curious if it warps if water gets in the seams? We have vinyl floors and I notice if water gets on a seam and we do not notice right away to wipe it up, then it bubbles up a bit.

Also, my daughter dropped something heavy on the floor and now we have a dent that punctured through the vinyl. I am guessing my flooring is probably of a cheaper variety than what you have.

I do agree that your flooring looks fabulous. I even love the way mine looks except those few spots of water damage and dent.

    Thanks!

Robyn, it is very water tight. We have had many spills so far and it all stays on the surface and never down the joints.
