DIY Outdoor Winter Decor for your front door and porch…

A fresh evergreen wreath is classic outdoor decor and withstands the elements well. This evergreen swag and oversized wood gift tag combo lets you give your guests a welcome message too! Get the tutorial over at That’s My Letter.

Most of us put up lights around our front door and porch — but Opaque Canvas made it even more magical by stringing up twinkle lights on the ceiling to give that glow to her whole porch!

And you can save a bundle and get just the look you want by creating your own swags to hang from your porch or garage lights — it’s easy with this tutorial from In My Own Style. make a hang-on pine swag for outdoor lights - In My Own Style via @Remodelaholic

Sweet and simple DIY winter decorations: Snowflake banners around the porch! Use this tutorial and templates from Martha Stewart. (This might not be totally wind-proof, but using waterproof paper and securing the strings at the top and bottom should be sufficient for most smaller winter storms, I imagine.)

And if you need a big impact, combine a large wooden sign with a fresh wreath to spread JOY! from Fynes Designs.

DIY Outdoor Winter Decor for around the yard….

Use up some old wood you have laying around! Use our tutorial to make these simple trees for outdoor winter decor.

A large wooden Christmas tree would be at home on the porch or standing up around the yard, too. Learn to build this rustic reclaimed wood tree from Her Toolbelt:

You can also build your own version of those lighted Christmas presents to place in the yard, using this tutorial from DIY Vintage Chic

or create a different kind of holiday gift decoration using a cinder block! (so creative!) from Club Chica Circle

And I just LOVE how simple and cute these cut log Santas are! (And actually, they are Danish nisse, which are more like gnomes — it’s a really cool Scandinavian tradition, so get the tutorial and more about the tradition here at Smart Girls DIY.)

DIY Outdoor Decor for your planters and window boxes…

Since nothing much is growing in those window boxes and planters in December, you can add berries and evergreen boughs for a festive arrangement (from Salisbury Green House)
