I came across a really unique Etsy shop recently, when I was looking for some family room rug and window covering inspiration. I think their products and the story behind their shop are so unique. Check out Alaska Rug Company:
With the logo “A New Veneer on Forgotten Fishing Gear”, you know the story has to be good. And it turns out to be especially good if you’re into reusing and recycling.
All the household items and jewelry that you will find at Alaska Rug Company are woven from the castoff fishing lines of a 100 year old cannery on Kodiak Island, Alaska. The shopowners say that they have warehouses of rope and long winters that they can spend finding creative ways to repurpose that rope.
I think this monkey fist curtain tie-back is so cool. And I also like the fact that fishing line seems to come in all sorts of trendy colors–like the gray and pink combo used to make a kitchen trivet.
Now it’s your turn to highlight what you’ve been making and selling. Remember, this link up is mainly for cottage industry shops–individuals and families working at home etc.
