Home Sweet Home on a Budget: Porch and Patio Makeovers

Did you get a chance this week to read Cassity’s post about her backyard and patio?  There was such a difference between her before and after pictures.  It’s amazing what $500, some paint, and a lot of elbow grease can do to spruce up and outdoor space.

The ongoing transformation of Cassity’s patio is the perfect example of how the exteriors of a home’s entryways and exits leave a big impression on the people who use them.  Since they are visible to anyone passing by, your porch and patio are to your house what a glossy cover is for magazine.  They should reflect the best of what’s inside and make anyone who sees them want to go in and take a look around.

Sound intimidating?  It doesn’t have to be.  And sprucing up your porch or patio doesn’t require a fat wallet, either.  Here to prove that are some incredible  (and thrifty!) outdoor space makeovers from five talented bloggers.

Kimmie from Sugar and Dots said her front porch was nothing but a catch-all for the first few months after moving in.

She transformed the catch-all into a vibrant, welcoming porch for very little cost by repainting the furniture she already owned and adding a few pretty DIY projects.

Over at Random Thoughts of a Supermom, Kelli’s original patio had no shade, no storage for toys, and a rusty old table.

Kelli was resourceful and found ways to address those problems on a budget.   Gorgeous outdoor fabrics (bought on sale) and lemon yellow paint turned this patio into a shady, organized oasis.

Outdoor furniture can cost a good chunk of money, so being able to refresh what you have can really help you save.  Staci from Just Sew Sassy made new, colorful cushions for her patio furniture, and those cushions totally make that space!

I love the chevron pattern and, of course, the sunny yellow hue that she chose.  Nothing says summer like citrus colors!

Jen of Scissors and Spatulas found an old wicker chair at Goodwill that inspired her porch makeover.

Simply by accessorizing the freshly painted chair and her front door with pretty pillows and a wreath, Jen made her porch fresh and inviting.  The monogrammed pillow for the front porch is pure genius.

Centsational Girl Kate’s patio had a lovely view but lacked pizzazz.  She had visual interest to spare after the addition of a pergola.

“Instead of the mosquito netting that comes with this 12′ x 12′ cabana from Home Depot,  I hung off-white curtains instead.  The “curtains” are cotton/linen flat sheets I found on clearance for $5 at a local outlet hemmed to the height of the cabana and hung with simple rings,” Kate explains.  The addition of a rug and other accessories truly turn a slab of cement into a welcoming outdoor room.
