Ikea KALLAX HACK for entryway storage

When we started this project we actually didn't have a nook to fit the furniture in.

Behind that wall was this closet.  We decided we could steal 8 inches from the back if we installed a Closet system.  Swipe up to learn about the closet project.

Here is the back of the closet system, in order to save room we used plywood attached to the closet system and then shiplap on the top of that.  This is not a bearing wall.

You can see the extra 8 " we took from the closet on the side of the window.

To build this project we started with an inexpensive Ikea Kallax unit in white.

05

Ikea has tons of available options for adding storage to their Kallax units.  We decided to add drawers on top and baskets below.

06

Add legs to the base.  We did three sets.  Then turn it over and secure to the wall in the proper place.

07

Wrap the base with molding of choice.  Caulk and paint to help it look like one piece.

08

Install the drawers according to Ikea's directions.
