Best Colors for Your Home: Bright Yellow

The last edition of the Color Files featured rooms painted in creamy shades of pale yellow.  They were all really pretty, and the light yellows provided a great canvas for decorating with a variety of other colors and various styles.  In this edition of Color Files, while the shades are all yellow, I wouldn’t describe any of them as a “canvas”.  Today we’re looking at bright yellows that really pop.  These paint colors aren’t ones to take a backseat—they become the stars of the show, the focal points of a room.  In fact, a squeeze of lemon yellow was just the ingredient I needed to add to my last house as a finishing touch.

There’s no denying that these sunny hues are cheerful, wake-up-and-smell-the-roses kinds of colors.  They are definitely a bolder choice than their paler cousins.  It’s the perfect pairing with a moodier gray or contrasting navy.  It adds a dose of summer fun next to beachy corals and sky blues.  On furniture, it adds an unexpected element of whimsy.  And on the walls…well, you can’t help but feel like you’ve been playing in the sunshine when you’ve been in a bright yellow room.

I wish I was brave enough to use such a bright yellow…I love it…but…have color paralysis…right now I have 6 shades of paint swatches I have painted on my kitchen walls…STIll (since Sept) CANNOT choose one…EVERYTHING in the house is currently off white…ready for color, but it is hard to jump off and do it! :(

You can DO it!! DO IT! DO IT! (I’m cheering you on!) If you are that worried though, it may be best to go with a bit of color but leaning toward the neutral side, that goes with many colors and then add pops of color in your accessories that can be changed out easily. That way you can work your way into adding color to your home, without the choice being so overwhelming!
