Our Deck Clean Up!

Written by Cassity

Last summer we did what any normal new house buyers would do.  We bought a super fixer upper, then we completely ignored the interior of our house and built a deck…(because that is normal)  It actually felt totally natural at the time.   I fell in LOVE with this house mostly because of the yard, and all the trees, which is just not a guarantee here in the desert.  So, creating a family space in the backyard was a number one priority to me.  (Can you see why?)

Well, we had a super mild, very strange winter, so about a month or two ago, we brought all of our outdoor  furnishings again.  As you can imagine, right after we brought it out, we were finally hit with some winter storms and tons of rain, freezes, snow, and what my dad calls a mud-rain (a huge dusty wind storm that picks up all the loose dirt into the air followed by a quick rain that deposits that dirt ALL OVER YOUR STUFF!)  Which means we’ve been trying to get the space all cleaned AGAIN and AGAIN, so we can enjoy hanging out in the mild weather before it gets hot!

It was perfect timing when Scotts®Plus OxiClean™ Outdoor Cleaner reached out to see if we had any outdoor cleaning projects… cuz as you can see by these pictures… we most certainly did!  Here is one side of our deck that we call our lounge…

My kids LOVE to play around the little table, so we had dried on milk spills among the dirt!Cleaning with Scotts Outdoor Oxiclean cleaner (9 of 30)

Dust all over the deck boards (that already needs to be re-stained apparently!)Cleaning with Scotts Outdoor Oxiclean cleaner (3 of 30)

Our little dining table was COVERED with dirt about an inch thick! Cleaning with Scotts Outdoor Oxiclean cleaner (4 of 30)

In fact the table was actually begging to be cleaned!Cleaning with Scotts Outdoor Oxiclean cleaner (15 of 30)

Okay let’s get this party started!!!Cleaning with Scotts Outdoor Oxiclean cleaner (7 of 30)

We just screwed the spray can to our hose and sprayed down all the surfaces that needed cleaning and added a little extra scrubbing on the really dirty things!  Our deck is right above our lawn, but Scotts Plus is tough on stains and safe to use around grass and plants, which is good because we REALLY needed to clean it well.  But I definitely wanted my plants not to die from the cleaners.

Also, unlike chlorine bleach Scotts®Plus OxiClean™ Outdoor Cleaner will not harm fabrics and will clean concrete, wood, siding, patio furniture and more!!

We got the whole family involved, because my girls LOVE to scrub stuff and this cleaner suds up so well they were having the time of their lives!Cleaning with Scotts Outdoor Oxiclean cleaner (18 of 30)

And the after, which I can tell you we’ve been using everyday that the weather will cooperate with us.Cleaning with Scotts Outdoor Oxiclean cleaner (30 of 30)

It’s from Downeast Home, but we bought it a year or two ago so I’m not sure if it would still be around. We are working on plans to build your own, though!
