Fall Bounty; Thanksgiving Tablescape

Fall Bounty; Thanksgiving Tablescape

When Justin and I were in college, we had the pleasure of driving through Wellsville Canyon on the way to visit our family.  The canyon is steep, winding, and tight, but in the fall the trees are spectacular.  My husband and I used to call it “skittles”- as in a rainbow of fall colors.  The trees were amazing.  I miss that canyon drive!

So, I have to admit that it is funny to me how fall colors for décor always seem to be so, well just orange or brown.  Is that the main color that comes to you mind when you think of fall?  Tan and Brown?  Nothing against orange, in fact I really like the color, but fall is SO much more colorful than just orange.

Well, I recently received an email about joining Wayfair in their  Holiday Tablescape Challenge.  It was a little tougher than you might think, considering we don’t actually have a dining room or even a finished space right now with the remodel.  But it made for the perfect excuse for me to go hang out at my sister Kristin’s house.  Together we tried our hand at setting a beautiful fall table (and heck we did two Christmas versions as well, so I guess I am one of those awful people who enjoys Christmas for more than it’s “allotted month”)

BUT anyway, we did a “Fall Bounty Table” and used a bunch of the gourds, pumpkins, tomatoes and the other wonderful fruits from Kristen’s garden, with just a pop of royal blue and the whole table is amazingly colorful.  Exactly like Skittles.. so that makes me love it even more!

If you read this blog often, you may have heard about my passion for dishes.  A girl can never have too many serving pieces in my mind, but in the real world, since space is limited, I think simple silver pieces are one of the best investments you can make. These pieces can easily be dressed up or down depending on the season or purpose for the meal!

For this table, I started with these 5 basic pieces, and my grandmother’s Noritake China:

In the center of the table, I slightly off centered a small stack of books and another one for under the cake.  Then, I took some off white burlap and gathered it in bunches, and folds into the center of the table, tucking under the edges.  We placed  the most important dishes around the table and followed that up by filling in the rest with the beautiful fall harvest.  A few simple white votives, and two candles on iron work stands from my sister, and we were pretty well set.

For the napkin ring.  I bought some strung beads and made little “bracelets” to hold them together.  This bracelet might be a fun idea for a take home gift.  We through some little truffles around on the table, cuz, well, I like chocolate!

I love the royal blue enamel pitcher that my sister had.  It give the table SUCH a pop of color and vintage charm.  It had a huge chip in it, but I like it all the more for the chippy-ness.

I used the Mercury glass votive as a flower vase for this go round.

No cakes were harmed in the photographing of this tablescape.

…but after, I can’t promise that it lasted very long!

Traci, I think so too. Food this time of year is amazing. My favorite part is just walking outside and picking food from the garden and eating it.
