Home Exterior Facelift; Adding a Porch!
This is the house in 2004 before the porch addition. When we were working on it, people would literally stop thier cars and point, amazed after 50 years of very little change. We got used to people just stopping to watch what we were doing. I would be out gardening and people would pass in their cars- calling “keep up the good work, we love what you’re doing!” One gal stopped while walking and told us her family was taking bets if it was going to be a room addition or a porch.
We did have an architect draw up plans to help us w/ the roof design, how to blend it in w/ what was existing. It was Paul’s idea to add the double columns. Being the carpenter he is – he made 3 mock-ups of the railing and we stood across the street picking which one we liked best. Seriously – 3. He made the front porch swing in high school.
We added the planter by the big tree and all the other garden areas too. I’ve discovered my green thumb! Thank you Linda and Sue! About a year before the porch, we had “College Pro Painter’s” paint the house. Super cheap and college kids did it, they did a great job too. That alone made the neighbors faint with happiness, adding the porch just about did them in. LOL. Once I get through this old stuff, I’m really wanting to show you the full kitchen and one of the bathrooms……(tease!!)
