White Farmhouse Dining Room

White Farmhouse Dining Room

I absolutely love the look of this farmhouse dining room. Such a happy and bright white place to eat dinner with the family!

The Ironstone Nest is a home decor, furniture refinishing, craft, DIY blog with a little lifestyle thrown in for good measure.  I specialize in refurbishing antique furniture, vintage home decor on a budget, estate sales and professional home staging, but I’m also a compulsive baker so you’ll see a recipe shared here once in a while as well.  I mean, I figure money can’t buy you happiness, but it canbuy you cookies, which is kind of the same thing, right?

I enjoy re-purposing vintage items into something completely unexpected and you’ll see that when you take a peak at the Etsy shop.  I see the possibility in items other people may have neglected and am able to give them a new life.  I also enjoy the thrill of the hunt at flea markets, garage sales, antique malls, estate sales and anywhere I can get my hands on a one-of-a-kind treasure.  However, my true passion lies in finding old, unwanted furniture and rejuvenating each piece with paint, restoration or both, and always with love and care.  It’s just what I love to do.  That passion came through in our Playroom Wardrobe, which is one my favorite furniture re-dos to date, or as you can see by the furniture I redid for an outdoor market last Fall.  We also think it’s important to recycle in our nest, and that is very apparent in our Outdoor Pallet Sofaproject.  We love that sofa!

As for me personally, I love deep heart to hearts, contagious laughter and overfeeding guests.  I am completely addicted to white ironstone china, interior decorating books and all things vintage or antique.  I’m a wife, mother, friend, dreamer, crafter, furniture refinisher and obsessivere-decorator.  My hope is that you might find some inspiration here.  I love this life, and this is me “makin’ the most of it”.

The dining room is finished.  Done.  Finalized.  Complete.  I finally finished the cafe curtains for the window wall last weekend (in the nick of time) so I thought I’d share a few photos with you of the finished room.

But first . . .

Let’s take a peek at how this room used to look, shall we?  We must not forget just how far this room has come:

And here it is today:

Ta da!  I think it looks a little different, wouldn’t you agree?

The material for the cafe curtains is muslin, believe it or not.  I picked it up at Hobby Lobby for $2.99/yard.

I made a few changes to the buffet wall since the Open Shelvespost back in March.  I added an antique cutting board to the top shelf, added an ironstone gravy boat, put a few antique ironstone dishes on the wall underneath the bottom shelf, added the milk tote which holds antique silverware and I, unfortunately, had to toss the myrtle topiaries just yesterday.  They lasted almost 4 months, but I just couldn’t save them anymore.  Instead, I cut fresh hydrangea from our yard and placed them in large blue Ball jars.  I’ll keep these jars here throughout the summer and change out the flowers.

Yes, there’s a computer there on that pantry wall.  This is where I blog once in a while.  I am SO ready for a built-in desk here.  Some day.

The giant fork and spoon flanking either side of our window wall were purchased from Decor Stealsa couple of months ago and I absolutely love them.  And the cake stand in the lower right-hand corner of this picture usually has some sort of yummy baked good inside.  I like sweets.  What can I say?

Hence the chalkboard sign hanging from the top of it with an appropriate saying:

We love the mix of the antique ladderback chairs with our farmhouse chairs and how the entire look is brought together by our awesome recycled Farmhouse Table that now seats 8 (hallelujah!).

As you can probably tell from these photos, I am a minimalist.  It actually does look like this most of the time.  Clutter makes me cringe.  I am a “everything has a place and everything in its place” kind of person.  But just don’t open my cupboards, m-kay?
