It’s time for the latest edition of The Color Files! Today, we’re taking a look at a gorgeous jewel tone that, unfortunately, often takes a beating in the design world. Seriously, how many times have you heard someone mock a giant purple sofa or lament about the shade of purple on the walls before a makeover? The reality is that purple can be a difficult color to work with, but if done right, purple can be a royal hue that looks amazing. I’m excited to share some beautiful examples of just how good purple can be when it’s perfectly done. Enjoy!

Have you used purple in your home? What do you think the best purple paint color is?

My husband and I painted our living room purple! We used Valspar’s Dusty Lavender on top and Regal Plum on the bottom, separated by a white chair rail. The high-gloss white trim all around really makes it pop. Three years later, we still adore the colors! Finding a nice, inexpensive rug to go in the room has been tricky, though.
I think Ballard Designs has some purple items right now… and overstock is a great place for affordable rugs! GOOD LUCK!
My parents decided to go with purple for their laundry room when I remodeled it: http://craftprocontracting.com/contractor-blog/archives/17-Basement-Finishing-Framing,-Drywall,-Painting-and-Trim-in-Morristown-07960.html
I think it looks great! Purple is bold and I like bold.
