Elegant Neutral Bathroom Renovation

Written by Remodelaholic

I’ve got a gorgeous neutral bathroom renovation to share with you from a talented guest blogger.  It’s got all the elements of bathroom design perfection: great use of space, plenty of storage, beautiful finishes, and a color palette that is completely serene.  The perfect place to soak and unwind after a long day!

There’s a lot that can be done to make bathrooms prettier and more efficient without calling a plumber or knocking down walls.  On the other hand, though, bathrooms are just about the hardest working rooms in a house.  Sometimes making that space work in your favor requires more than a fresh coat of paint.  Here a five bathroom remodels that I pulled from my file of favorites:

Okay, let’s go take a tour of this freshly remodeled bathroom.  I just have to say, I’m completely head over heels for that vanity.  And the tile!  And…well, see for yourself.

Neutral Bathroom Renovation

Submitted by: Soul Style

Hi, I’m Tracy!  In 2007, after 14 years working in the corporate world and decorating for friends and family in my spare time, not to mention continuous re-decoration of my own homes, I established my own Interior Decorating & Home Staging company. Upon graduating from the QC Design School, I launched my business serving commercial & residential clients.  I approach design with function & ‘living’ in mind.  A priority is placed on planning and designing with choices that maximize budget without compromising aesthetic.  I believe that your style, objects and accessories tell your story, and combined with fabulous design, will create a home you’ll love coming home to.  I blog about my projects at Soul Style.

This story is about a standard issue mid-90’s builder design Master bathroom.  You know the one – huge space sucking corner tub, and an itty bitty closed in shower stall.

Before:

But what this bathroom had going for it was its size, and two large windows.  At a very generous 132 square feet, we had a lot of space to work with. The 2 corner windows of course offered natural light, but also a luxurious design opportunity.  My design senses were tingling as soon as I saw this space in my initial consult with my client Kim.  When I ran through some of the ideas with her, she was as excited as I was!

The only change we made to the layout was moving the entry door (from the Master Bedroom) over 6” to accommodate a larger shower, and changing it to a narrower pocket door.  A pocket door is an easy but valuable addition to incorporate into the design of an ensuite bath – eliminating the space necessary for door swing essentially adds up to 26” in usable floor space.

Soul Style after 1

This view shows exactly where a door swing would have interfered with the design & functionality of the space.

Here’s the new view of the vanity wall.  As the design developed, all the finishes and for this space became about understated elegance.

Soul Style shower head

8”x20” soft white matte subway tiles were used on the walls, complemented by a soft taupe rectangular glass mosaic.  Quartz was used inside and to frame the wall niches.

Soul Style shower stall

The new shower area was increased to a spacious 4’x5’.   A knee wall was added to create a complete niche for the tub.

Soul Style bathtub

Ahh, and that tub area….a curvy, freestanding tub, surrounded by full length silk drapes on the large windows.  Topped (of course) with a spectacular silk shaded chandelier.  The design plan allowed for a minimum 10” all the way around the tub, making cleaning practical and simple – yes, those details matter!

Soul Style vanity

The new vanity is finished in BM OC-17 White Dove, topped with a Caesarstone countertop in Organic White.  At 112” long (yes, seriously – 9 feet!), it was important to keep it clean lined and simple.  The open bottom with a slatted shelf offers a place for ‘spa like’ towel storage, as well as keeping this huge piece from feeling heavy.  Deep, soft close drawers offer easy storage, along with the shelving behind the centre doors for taller items.

Soul Style undermount sinks

Oval undermount sinks with softly curved fixtures.

Soul Style mirrors

Two mirrors 4’ high and trimmed in chrome were used instead of one large one.  Three sconces add symmetry and light the whole expanse without shadow.  Small crystal knobs on the sconces pair perfectly with the crystal ‘bubbles’ hanging from the chandelier.

Soul Style full bath

We chose a polished marble floor tile – it has soft color gradations from creamy white to beige and greige, with an almost silky movement in the pattern.

Soul Style art on wall

The wall color is BM 2108-60 Abalone.

This Master bathroom renovation was so much fun, and such a wonderful opportunity to create a luxurious and special space with my clients.

Tracy, your design is simply beautiful.  I’m sure the homeowners love their new space.  Who wouldn’t?

This is just stunning! Would you be able to tell me where the tub and vanity are from? I have a similar layout, and would love to do this in my bath. Thanks in advance!

Oh My Goodness! Did you do this all yourself? Beautiful and modern design, I recently started remodeling my children’s bathroom and I hired America’s Best Bath to help with the renovations, Looking forward to the results.

What an elegant bathroom remodel. The clear shower enclosure was a great addition.
