10 Personalized Wall Art DIYs
1. Monogram letter
If you don’t have a lot of time, this fabric-covered monogram letter is a great project to do in a single session. Use the first letter of your first or last name, or step outside the box and use one that represents your favorite sports team or alma mater.
2. Scrabble tile names
Fill an empty wall in your home with this fun idea. Make “Scrabble” tiles using simple boards cut into squares, then mod-podge letters and numbers onto the faces. Names of family members are great but you can also use the names of places you love or words that inspire you. Make it your own!
3. Embroidered family handprints
Make a sweet set of family handprints that will really last by tracing each family member’s hand and then embroidering it for a keepsake. Choose colors that work together but can be distinguished when layered so that each handprint stands out.
4. Paint handprint word art
This project turns simple paint handprints into a great piece for your living room or kitchen. You can use the word “family,” your last name, or another word that describes or inspires you. Be sure to allow one layer of paint dry before adding more so that the colors don’t mix.
5. Geometric magazine art
A teen’s room or a modern home would be the perfect place to hang this DIY art. Use images cut from your favorite magazines to piece together a geometric design and paint it with whatever colors you like!
6. Skyline string art
You’ve seen string art, but you may not have seen it like this. The tutorial here is for your typical heart and state string art, but the same techniques can be applied to the skyline of the city you live in or a city you love. Just trace it onto a large board and place nails on the traced line and around the outer edge of the board, then go crazy with the string.
7. Travel photo map
Show your love of wanderlust with a fun project like this one. Keep a record of where you’ve been by using photos to fill in a map, whether it is the United States or a larger map of the world. Remember to take a photo for each place you visit!
8. Song lyrics art
Most of us can think of a song that really means something to us or uses words that we relate to. Turn that song into cool décor by stenciling it onto a painted canvas or large board. You can highlight particular words by painting them a contrasting color or make a diptych or triptych style piece by using more than one board.
9. Photo clock
Basic clock kits can be found at craft stores or online and are the perfect way to turn a favorite photo of a pet or family member into a personalized clock. Mount your photo onto foam board to give it the thickness it needs to support the clock piece. A Beautiful Mess even got creative and colored the clock pieces with nail polish for added fun!
10. Carved initials painting
This is a great idea for a customized painting. It looks difficult but is actually incredibly easy! Use masking tape to mark off and paint around the trees, then follow the rest of the tutorial to get the birch tree look. The icing on the cake with this project is the copper leafing that spells out the initials of you and your love.

Kayla Lilly is a photographer, writer, wife, and mama making a house a home in eastern Idaho. She met her mister while working at an amusement park and married him a year later after deciding there was no way to live without him. The amusement has continued as they’ve added three kids and a passel of pets to their lives while finishing college and starting a photography business. Drawing inspiration from the whirlwinds of marriage, parenthood, and the media, Kayla blogs at Utterly Inexperienced, and spends the rest of her time chasing chickens, organizing junk drawers, diapering toddlers, and photographing everyone willing to step in front of her lens.
