12 First Aid Uses for Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil is well-known for its relaxing effects on the body, but did you know that the oil is also very good for the skin and can help reduce the pains and discomfort associated with injuries to the skin? Here are 12 uses for lavender essential oil that make it a great addition to your first aid kit! You’ll be amazed at how often you whip it out to treat scrapes, cuts, burns, and more.

1. Burns

Got burned by a hot pan? Apply two to three drops of lavender essential oil on the burn and the pain will lessen. Put the oil on the burn periodically throughout the day and it’ll get better faster. The oil may also help prevent a scar from forming.

2. Cuts

A drop of lavender essential oil on a cut can help stop the bleeding and reduce the pain. The oil will also clean the wound and kills the bacteria around the area of the wound.

3. Bruises

Rub a drop of lavender oil on a nasty bruise to reduce pain and to calm the person (especially if it’s a child) who has the bruise.

4. Diaper Rashes

Mix one drop of lavender essential oil with a scoop of coconut oil. Rub that on your baby’s bottom for a soothing effect. The smell will also help calm your little one.

5. Sunburns

A bad sunburn is painful, but you can reduce the discomfort of a sunburn with lavender essential oil in two ways. You could fill a bottle with coconut oil mixed with a few drops of lavender oil. Or you could put distilled water in a glass spray bottle and add a few drops of lavender essential oil to the bottle. Apply to the skin for some pain relief.

6. Sunburned Lips

Make a homemade lip balm and add a few drops of lavender essential oil for sensitive, sunburned lips. This also works well for chapped lips.

7. Cramps

If you have monthly cramps or muscle cramps, try mixing lavender essential oil with coconut oil and rubbing that on the area. Then put a warm compress on the area for even more relief.

8. High Temperatures

To help bring down a high temperature, especially for younger children, rub lavender essential oil on the bottom of the feet and the cheeks.

9. Ear Pain

Apply lavender oil around the ear and behind the ear to help relieve ear pain.

10. Insect Bites and Stings

To help reduce the pain of an insect bite or sting, rub a few drops of lavender essential oil on the affected area. This will also help reduce itching and swelling.

11. Itchy Skin

If you have dry, itchy skin, try mixing coconut oil or olive oil with a few drops of lavender oil. Massage the combined oils on your skin for some relief.

12. Cold Sores

Combine a drop of lavender essential oil with a carrier oil and rub it on a cold sore to help reduce your discomfort.

Isn’t it amazing how much lavender essential oil can do? Lavender essential oil and other essential oils make great additions to your first aid kit, modern medicine and your home.
