Top Ten Year 2013

2013, where did you go…?

2013-010

So apparently the world didn’t end last year, it is still moving along.  Our life is pretty much moving just the same as ever, with a few small changes.  I tired to break them up a bit but here are my reflections on 2013!

 Business:

1. The best assistant EVER!

I hired an assistant that I LOVE!  She is a dream come true.  She helps me with everything, and I couldn’t live without her.  By far her addition to our team, the best thing that happened to us this year!  The very best thing!  I can’t say enough, I literally love her!  THANK you Lorene for all you do!

2. Paying off Some Debt:

We decided to make a few sacrifices last year so that we could, 1. be closer to family and 2. pay off some debt.  I am happy to report that we have been sticking it through.  I can tell you honestly, after owning 3 of my own houses that renting is a little hard for me.  We have been living in my parent’s basement, and that can be hard in itself 😉 .   Luckily they have let us work on projects, but it is slow going!   I have missed my fully remodeled home (just getting exactly where I wanted it) to a small apartment, with no real kitchen… but the good news is this transition has helped us grow our business a bit  and we have paid off about $20,000 worth of debt, not easy, but it is worth it… We have a  bit more debt to go, I know we can do it!

3. New Website Started:

I have been working on a new website.  I am still getting it going, but it is coming along, and I am excited to see how it goes when we launch!  If you wanna check it out, it is Tipsaholic!  Please do, and I would love any pins that for articles you find helpful!  WE have some other new sites in the works.  I will let you know how those go!

4. Let’s Get Physical:

Um, hello 30’s, nice of you to stop by, stay awhile if you will!  Oh, and by the way, where did you put my metabolism? Yeah, well I didn’t grow up in sports or dance, and my hobbies are more still.  I love to remodel and be busy, but my job is super sedentary overall.  So this year, I not only gained some extra padding, I have gained some new habits, firstly I have been starting to workout regularly.  I am still trying to learn how to like it.  TIPS and ADVICE NEEDED!!   I have noticed quite a few benefits, I am not as tired everyday (weird I know), my lovely lower back pain actually feels a little better as I am strengthening those muscles, and I like to feel strong.   Justin apparently was born for gym life.  He loves it.   I am getting there.  I plan to love it for sure by next week, I will let you know how it goes!  Overall, I have lost about 7 inches and 10 lbs, A good start, and I hope it keeps getting better!

5. A New Do’

I haven’t really had my hair do updated since I had Etta…I used to do it all the time in college, but I didn’t have a stylist in Texas, so I just let it grow long and trimmed it myself..  I was super lazy about it.  But I finally cut and COLORED my hair!  I Really love it.  IT has done wonders for my confidence, I shouldn’t have waited so long!

6. New family pictures!  Finally!

We finally got new family pictures… Thanks to Clelsea!  I can’t wait to see the rest, we just did it about a week ago, so she sent me one, to wet my appetite!  So happy, so far!

 7. Etta is going to preschool

Etta started preschool!  SHE LOVES IT!  She has some great little buddies, and is so excited about school everyday!  I LOVE watching her grow up!  She loves to dance and sing.  Her personality is coming out, and she loves to joke and be silly!  She is so kind and thoughtful, she always touches my heart with her kindness!!  She is obedient and so wise for a little girl!

8. Lydia is potty trained and had her first dance recital!!

Lydia, is such a joy! She is a very determined, precocious child, this girl knows what she wants…  She potty trained herself, yes, it was all her!   We would find her taking herself to the potty, so we just let her do her thing, and there are no more diapers in our house!  She also started dance this year.  She loves it!  She totally did her own thing in the dance recital (hope you can watch the video…). Watching her grow makes me SO happy!!!

9. The Patio!

We worked our butts off for 5 months to finish our patio, curved seat wall, fire pit and garden boxes!  It is a great accomplishment and we are so happy with it.  I can’t wait for spring to come so we can pick back up with living outside most of the time!   And I can’t wait to have another fabulous garden!  You can read about the whole project here!

Excited about 2014!!!

I really am hopeful and excited about next year.  I am thinking we will buy a house, sell our Texas house and if all things work out, maybe try for another little kiddo, I am so baby hungry it is killing me… that is not an announcement.  Whatever comes, I know it will be a great year!  I hope you all have had a good year, or at least can pick out some of your favorite moments!  AND!!  Here is to next year!

Here are our other top tens, I haven’t done it every year, but I didn’t want to miss out this year!  20122011, 2010, 2009, 2008

  1. I love your top 10, and I totally understand the sacrifice to get out of debt! We have been living with my in laws for 4 years and this year we sold our house in TX (finally) paid off both our student loans and if it hadn’t been for a car accident leading to having to buy a new-to-us car we’d be debt free! GAH still working on saving up for another house, but in the meantime it’s been worth the challenges of sharing a small space. Love the family pictures BTW and can’t wait to see the rest!

  2. I love, love, love your blog! You keep it real. Thanks. You share the warts at times. Who doesn’t have those? Congrats on all the debt you’ve paid off. Way to go! Looking forward to see what 2014 brings via your blog! Happy New Year! and btw your nutter butter cookies (which I made last yr for the first time) have become a tradition! Yum!
