Wow… I know I keep harping on the move, but I am exhausted! We’ve downsized by about 1,000 feet uh yeah, 1,000 square feet. Which means I have TOO much stuff, and I am having to go through each box to see what we are even keeping, what we are getting rid of, and what is going to storage. YIKES! The funny thing is, I honestly used to like moving, but moving with kids? Not so much – it is SO much harder to finish a house, and pack it up when they need you? Anyone know what I mean?
Anyway, I feel like it has been such a long time since I have done any small crafty/clothing projects (in fact, honestly I think that last clothing remodel I did was 3 years ago… if you don’t count Halloween) the last craft was the owl pillow pattern… I’d love it if go check it out! So, I thought I would try my hand at it again, believe it or not I do like to shake things up on the remodeling scene. I can only rip out so many walls.. (before the house falls down).
Anyway, I got to try out some new fun Scotch Duct Tape recently. And thought it would be fun to make a belt or two for my daughters. Maybe not the most original idea in the world…but, there are like 10 colors, 16 patterns and 10 combo packs of Scotch Colors and Patterns Duct Tape, which kind of makes the options endless. And I love that the belt is useable, and not just a decoration!
From the tutorial pictures, you will see that I hired some help… “Thing” from The Addams Family. ..um, yeah, actually it is just me. But when I was editing images, I kept thinking of Thing.
Basically this post is just going to be a lot of pictures and a quick video to show you how I decided to make my belt.
Let’s begin, you will need:
Any Scotch Duct Tape, in your color or pattern of choice
2 “D” ring belt loops (I got mine at the fabric store)
It is also nice to have another belt for size comparison, if available.
Start with a small 4-5 inch-ish piece (this width depends on the size od your “D” ring, so do it accordingly. Fold it onto itself in thirds. So that the final width will fit nicely inside the D ring.
Wrap that piece of tape in another similar sized piece. Fold the edges down length wise and thread through the “D” loops like shown:
Press closed. Secure around the loop with another piece of tape.
Now determine how long you would like the belt to be. Lay out the example belt and roll the tape to the proper length.
Fold the raw edge over. Now place another piece on the raw side, (sticky sides together) and wrap the ends over to the back. (you can do this a third time if you want to just to thicken up the belt)
Now embellish, anyway you want. I did the chevrons using two overlapping pieces, then covered the back with an additional piece of blue tape. NO measuring, I eyeballed it, because who is going to be measuring the perfection of the chevrons?… well, if you are, then I am glad it is for a three year old who just likes the bright colors!
