10 Minute Update! Leviton USB Charging Outlet/Tamper Resistant Outlet
It’s a modern problem… not enough outlets to charge everyone’s devices conveniently. Do you need more fast USB chargers throughout your home like we do? We have added USB charging outlets in a few places in our home, but we’ve found that as we sit in the living room at the end of the day to unwind and relax, we often want to use our phones and they are often needing charged. So I updated an old outlet to a new USB charging outlet — and it only took about ten minutes!
Today I will be showing you how to quickly install a Duplex USB Charging Outlet from Leviton, who have sponsored this post and video. Thank you, Leviton, for providing such great quality products for around the home! As always, all opinions and video bloopers are our own.
You don’t have to be an electrician to update an outlet, but for safety if you don’t understand electricity I recommend it. I have been working with electricity over the years and feel comfortable switching out outlets and switches without any problems. If you are not familiar with electricity and don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, it’s an easy project for an electrician to do for sure. Just watch the video and see how quick and easy an outlet update can be! And be sure to subscribe to our channel for more DIY videos.

In our living room, we wanted to be able to plug in a lamp or Christmas lights AND easily charge our phones, so the dual charging capabilities of this Leviton outlet are perfect. Two traditional plugs and two dedicated USB plugs fits our needs perfectly. Plug a phone charging cord right into the outlet without needing the adapter!
As you can see in the video, you can install the Leviton Duplex USB Charging Outlet in less than 10 minutes. All you need is a screwdriver and a voltage tester like this to ensure that the power is off to the outlet. Safety first!
It was a great update from our old worn out outlet. We have used these USB charging outlets throughout our homes and they are so useful and easy to install. You won’t regret installing these around your house. It seems like everyday there is always something that needs to be charged with a USB outlet, so you can never have too many — and we love using a multi-charger cable like this to make it easy to fit all our devices or have a cable that will work for friends that are visiting, too.
4 Things We Love about USB Charging Outlets
1: Add a USB port without taking away a traditional pronged outlet. Best of both worlds! You can make the two USB ports even more versatile with the multicharger cord like we showed in the video.
2: Well-built and tamper-resistant. Having a new outlet that is built well means we won’t have to replace it again soon, and having the tamper resistance keeps curious little ones safer. Our kids are growing up fast, but we often have little cousins and friends around so the extra safety precaution is great!
3: No visible screws. This is a little thing that just really makes this detail-oriented Remodelaholic happy. As you see in the video, the Leviton USB Charging Outlet has a two-piece face plate, so the second part just pops right on and covers up the screws. It looks so nice and clean and I was really impressed with the new cover design.
4: Fast and easy to install. Have I mentioned how quickly you can install a USB outlet? And how simple it is? You won’t regret it!
