– I love how this great boys bedroom has such a fun color scheme and uses maps for interest on the walls!

My name is Beth, and I’m thrilled to be introducing my blog Free Stylin’ to you on Remodelaholic! I began blogging almost two years ago, and it’s been so much fun! At Free Stylin’, I show you how to “live a stylish life without the expensive pricetag.” Many of my posts include tips, tricks, and tutorials using things you may already have on hand.

Today I wanted to share my boys’ bedroom with you.
It has cost less than $100 to create:
The inspiration for this boys bedroom came many years ago (BK…Before Kids) when I saw a picture in a magazine of a boy’s room with map wallpaper. I yanked the picture out and kept it close to my heart (or just in a file, really). 😉
A few years later I found a stack of old maps at a garage sale for about $1, and I knew I wanted to “wallpaper” my boys’ wall like the inspiration picture. The project ended up being pretty easy, and it only took about three hours. (You can find the complete tutorial HERE.) I made sure to incorporate maps from places we’ve lived, or that have meaning to us, to make the room more personal.
I absolutely LOVE how the boys bedroom wall turned out. Besides looking really cool, I love this project because it is renter-friendly. We can’t alter a lot in this house, and this map wall flips the proverbial decorating bird at that rule. 😉 I was able to create a personalized space for my boys that we can take with us. And the map wall gives the room color and interest.
Progress:
When it came to bedding, I knew I wanted bold. I have a thing for wide stripes when it comes to boy bedding. And the orange throw and shams bring a splash of color to the space.
It was a happy surprise to learn that Target sold a wide striped duvet and sham set for $19.99 . I grabbed the navy version and LOVE it! The orange throw was a $40 queen duvet set from Ikea. I just cut the duvet up the middle and gave one half to each boy. Two pillow shams came with the set as well.
So for $30 each, my cute kidlets got colorful and stylish bedding! (Read more about their bedding HERE.)
The blue dresser in this room was in desperate need of a makeover when I bought it at a garage sale for $10. (See the sad before HERE.) After a few coats of paint and new knobs, it has a new lease on life.
The boys’ room is now on it’s way to becoming one of my favorite places in the house. 🙂
I’m loving all the different shades of blue in here!
I would still like to add a headboard to each bed (instead of the one J has), as well as a wicker trunk and rug. Of course I’ll have to put my Free Stylin’ stamp on things…so that means unusual uses for ordinary items. I’d love it if you’d come on over to Free Stylin’ and follow along!!
Check out these other cute boy’s bedrooms!
Aesthetic, educational and very innovative. I give this one 5 stars!
Those maps look great! What a nice idea.
Thanks SO much for having me, Cassity!
I love the bed sheet patern… perfect for kids. Has a sort of menacing look to it but complements the room beautifully.
