Trending Now: Geometric Patterns
Recently, I thought it would be fun to create a post about the different design and decor elements that seem to be gaining momentum. I found so many fun examples of the things on my trending list…plus discovered a few more hot items…that I decided this stuff was just too good for one post. I started by introducing current trends that are inspired by nature. Keep watching for more “Trending Now” topics to come as I pinpoint the things we’re loving right now in blogland.
Geometrics are the patterns that we’re craving in 2013. Chevron is still a favorite, but it’s being joined by more shapes that have strong lines and simple colors. Herringbone, honeycomb, and fishscale patterns are growing in popularity. Interestingly, these three clean-lined patterns have their roots back in nature–so it’s not surprising that with our recent willingness to bring the outdoors in, we’d be drawn to these nature-based shapes.

Geometric Patterns in Home Decor:
Honeycomb
This pleasing hexagonal pattern takes it’s cue from the industrious bee. While it isn’t round, this shape shares some proportional similarities to the circle, making it a more masculine alternative to the classic polka dot.

Herringbone
This pattern is similar to chevron, but since the repeating colors aren’t in unbroken line, it comes off a little more natural and calming. Note that it’s gaining popularity as an option in flooring and tile.

Fish Scale
Speaking of fish…the pattern made by fish scales is simply beautiful, and we’ve all noticed. I wanted to stencil the walls in my last house, and we ran out of time so now let’s just see what other great inspiration there is.

Love the fish scale wall-art. And how a bout a twist in geometric art?
That is such a cool idea!
I admit I used to like the chevron patterns but now that I see them everywhere and on everything I am really burned out on it.
(I TOTALLY understand! I think they are fun, but they are everywhere. My vote is on polka dots for a while!
These are so cute! Love the pink houndstooth dresser! And the fish silhouette.
Thanks,
Laura Beth
