A Rug For My Love Bug

Written by Cassity

I know, I couldn’t help myself with the title, sometimes the cheese just comes out.

The other day I told you all about my plans for Etta’s room, then I told you I wasn’t planning on working on it, but I guess in some ways I am like the princess and the pea.  Even if that pea is 20 mattresses down, it bugs me until I fix it.  SO…. I started working on her room.  I know I have no self control.  If something is bothering me, I have to change it, so I guess I am more of a re-act kind of girl rather than and act before you have to, I guess at least when it comes to projects around my house.

Etta's Room Rug updated

I started by looking for a rug on Wayfair.  I really wanted a big graphic pattern, but I also need it to be big for the space, but super affordable. At first, I was hoping to find a rug with both pink and blue in it. Well, actually with only pink and blue would have been ideal, but I couldn’t find anything.  But I did find some beauties.  Like these navy rugs:

After checking out all the navy rugs, looked for some pink rugs, which had either too many other colors or not quite enough, but are super cute:

The biggest problem for me was not finding a beautiful rug that would have worked, but finding one in my budget that was big enough to fill the room. a 7’ by 10’ foot rug.

Finally I saw this rug, an indoor outdoor rug that would be tough enough to withstand my kids (And I can take it out in the backyard and hose it off if I ever want, since it is an indoor outdoor rug after all)  Plus, the shape of the design in the rug lends itself to some easy DIY projects(more on that next week).  But wanna hear the best part?

I was able to get 6’7” x 9’6” for only $124 with free shipping.  AMAZING DEAL!  I bought it the minute I saw it, I kid you not.

Once I had the rug, I ran to a local fabric store to look for fabric.  Since I didn’t find a pink and navy rug, I was hoping to find a pink and navy combo fabric, but still no luck!  So I guess another DIY project is in the works for that…  hint hint.  But I did find these cute fabrics, and matched the fabric with some great paint swatches.

Etta's Room Paint picking edited

The paint colors I decided to go with are below.  I got gallons of Satin paint from Sherwin Williams in their Emerald line of paints!  Although I will tell you more about this in a week or two as I wrap that part of the project up.

Sherwin Williams – SW 6582 Impatiens Pink (walls)

with accents of SW 6584 Cheery and SW 6586 Heart Felt (rug and other places yet to show you!)

For the blue I chose SW 6804 Dignity Blue

and the White was SW 7566 Westhighland White.

Next week, I will show you what DIY mischief got into me when the rug arrived, and I am totally loving it!

Definately looking forward to what you’re room is going to look like. I am wanting to do a navy and pink playroom for our girls, but it is in a section of our family room, so I’m wanting it to be fun, but not to young that it would look out of place connected to an adult space.

How does your BEAUTIFUL new rug feel? I was worried about purchasing an indoor/outdoor rug because I thought it might be uncomfortable for my little kiddos. What are your thoughts?

Tricia, It is not as thick as an indoor rug, but just by adding a rug pad it will be perfect, so it is TOTALLY worth the savings. I’ve tried and indoor/outdoor rug inside 2 or 3 times. They work great!
