Seven Pretty Workbench Ideas
1. Paint It
Pegboard is a simple and inexpensive way to organize all your tools and keep them handy. Spice it up with a quick coat of spray paint before mounting it on the wall. Use the same paint on other accents or organizing containers, like the small flower pots, to keep the area looking cohesive.
2. Lighten Up
Add a set of clip-on lights for when you’re burning the midnight oil or just need a bit more light. Swap out the pendant light fixture for a clip-on socket set and these DIY insulator lights are an enlightening and stylish — and cheap! — solution.
3. Make It Pretty
Tell the men of the house to keep their paws off your tools by getting tools in your favorite color! Amazon has inexpensive basic tool sets in pink or light blue. If you’re dying for a hammer of another color, paint your tools like Organized Mom did.
4. Keep It Close at Hand
Small flower pots on the upper shelf of the potting bench look adorable AND they keep twine, string, and other small tools organized and right where you need them. Paint them to match the pegboard and fabric curtains to pull the whole look together.
5. Build It
A potting bench is a versatile workplace for any area of the house. Build one yourself with these great plans from Ana White. Stain it with a medium stain to get this look, or paint it a fun color to reflect your color scheme.
6. Hide It
Use a simple fabric curtain to hide larger tools or bins on a lower shelf. Use the colors in the fabric to pull the whole look together, or create your own color scheme and paint some polka dot confetti curtains like I did for my daughter’s room.
7. Organize It
Add some casters to wire mesh bins (like these I found on Amazon) to keep recycling, trash, or other odds and ends organized and out of the way. Print out some simple labels for the rolling bins and peg board organizers so that everyone knows what goes where. Stick them on using clear packing tape or contact paper to make them more durable.
