Over the years of designing and decorating bedrooms in our houses, I’ve definitely learned a thing or two. One of the things I’ve learned is that the bed really should be the focal point of a bedroom. There’s just something about having an eye-catching headboard paired with gorgeous pillows and soft linens that really makes a room. In fact, when you start to decorate a room, it’s good to give the bed and linens top priority and then take your decorating cues from them.
But have you noticed how much it costs to put together the “perfect” bed? It seems like the price of good linens just keeps going up, and don’t even get me started on how much it costs to buy a mattress! Hundreds of dollars have to be spent just on the basics of a mattress and bedding, and that can put a serious dent in your decorating budget. If you’re like me, sometimes you have to stop right there and leave your bed on a cheap frame until you can save up for a nice headboard.
Luckily, you shouldn’t have to save for long, thanks to the creativity of your fellow Remodelaholics. I’ve featured dozens of DIY headboards that were built, refurbished, reupholstered, or redesigned by my readers. All of them saved a bundle, and a few of them spent less than $10 to create beautiful bedroom focal points with their new DIY headboards.
