DIY Modern Natural Wood Block Stools
Hi, it’s Amy from Hertoolbelt back with another build plan. The project for this week is stools, modern and natural block stools. The inspiration for this project comes from this cool home in Australia.

How to Build a Block Stool
Materials
- 2 – 1″ x 8″ x 8′
- 1 1/4″ pocket hole screws
- 1 1/2″ brad nails – optional
- wood glue
- sand paper
- wood filler
- paint/stain/top coat
Wood cost approximately: $18
Cut List
- 4 – 7″ x 17 1/4″
- 4 – 6 1/4″ x 17 1/4″
- 2 – 7″ x 14″
Step 1
On the 7″ x 17 1/4″ boards, measure and mark 6″ down on one side and 3″ over on an opposite end. Mark a line and cut off the extra (use a jig saw, circular saw, etc). Repeat for each 7″ board. Drill pocket holes and use wood glue and 1 1/4″ screws to join two 7″ boards together.
Step 2
On the 6 1/4″ x 17 1/4″ boards, measure and mark 6″ down on one side and 2 1/4″ over on an opposite end. Mark a line and cut off the extra (use a jig saw, circular saw, etc). Repeat for each 6 1/4″ board. Drill pocket holes and use wood glue and 1 1/4″ screws to join two 6 1/4″ boards together. Drill extra pocket holes to assemble the stool and to attach the top.
Step 3
Drill pocket holes in one of the 14″ pieces. Use wood glue and 1 1/4″ screws to join the 14″ boards together.
Step 4
Assemble the base pieces together. Either use 1 1/4″ pocket screws on the inside or 1 1/2″ nails to assemble the base pieces together.
Attach the top to the base with 1 1/4″ pocket holes screws or 1 1/2″ nails.
Step 5
Fill any cracks or blemishes with wood filler and allow to dry. Sand the stool, finishing with 120-150 grit paper in the direction of the grain. Finish the stool however you want, paint or stain, top coat.
Enjoy your stools!
