German Pancake with Buttermilk Syrup
This is a simple recipe for a beautiful, fluffy German pancake, and can be adapted in many ways. You can serve these as individual cupcake-size pancakes or in a large dish. Add any toppings that you love, but we’ve also included our recipe for a creamy, delicious buttermilk syrup. Enjoy!

German Pancake with Buttermilk Syrup

Ingredients
- 1 c milk
- 1 c flour
- 6 fresh eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- a few shakes salt
- 4 Tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
- In a blender, combine milk, flour, eggs, vanilla, and salt.
- Put melted butter in casserole dish.
- Pour mixture over melted butter.
- Bake at 400 degrees F for 15-20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Serve immediately.
Buttermilk Syrup

- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 c buttermilk*
- 1/2 c butter
- 1 Tbsp Karo syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, buttermilk, butter, and Karo syrup. Bring to a boil.
- Boil one minute, then remove from heat.
- Whisk in vanilla and baking soda.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
*Note: You can substitute a sour milk for the buttermilk. Just add 1/2 tsp. white vinegar to 1/2 cup of milk and let sit for a few minutes. Add in place of the buttermilk.
