Americana: A Red, White, and Blue Mud Room Mood Board

Hello again! I’m Dawn from DesigningDawn.com back this month with another mood-board for your decoration inspiration. As always, if you’ve missed any of my previous inspiration posts here on Remodelaholic, you can always check those out here. This month, I was inspired by our national holiday to come up with a red, white, and blue themed room that works all year round.

So I realize the 4th of July is over, but in honor of this month, I thought a somewhat patriotic room would be fun. Especially if it had the added challenge of not being too themey. Something that looks great all year, but with a distinctly American feel to it.

It seems like a lot of what I see as far as July decor, falls well within the ‘country craft’ style. I’m channeling Jerry Springer as I add “not that there’s anything wrong with that”, but country craft just isn’t my usual style. So I gave myself the added challenge of designing this room with a more modern feel to it.

I started with some inspiration rooms that I thought had the right color scheme, with a fun twist:

And finally, here’s what I cam up with for my own mood board, and I thought that a mud room would be a fun place to add this look and feel.

Keeping some rustic elements mixed in with the bright red, white, and blue color scheme helps it feel more lived in, and I like mixing patterns and textures to give the room some interest and depth. I really wanted a vintage, Americana feeling, without an overwhelming U.S.A. theme, so I stuck with some artwork that can be both graphical- with bold colors and vivid imagery, as well as representational- since the subject matter in several pieces is fairly patriotic.

I also added in accessories that I think have a classic Americana vibe, without going overboard. Things like a rustic barn light, a galvanized metal drink bucket, and a vintage Kit-Cat clock.

I think, overall, it is exactly the right mix of patriotism and style!

Thanks again to Cassity & the Remodelaholic team for having me here again today and every month. If you like what you see, be sure to visit me over on my blog, DesigningDawn, or follow along on Facebook, Pinterest, or Twitter. Have a great day, friends!
