Hanging Stockings Without A Fireplace Or Mantel, A Tutorial On Remodelaholic

No mantel? No fireplace? No problem! Hanging stockings without a mantel is simple! And it works whether you have a fireplace or not.

And when you’re thinking about filling those stockings, we’ve got some ideas for you: Tween and Teen Stocking Stuffers and Stocking Stuffers for Mom and Dad and Stocking Stuffers for Little Kids

By Tasha from Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body (now Kaleidoscope Living).

After we totally modernized our fireplace with a sleek concrete finish, we no longer had a mantel for stockings. But we came up with an idea for hanging stockings without a mantel and it’s an easy and stylish solution that looks great and it works with or without a fireplace!

How to Hang Stockings Without a Mantel or Fireplace

Supplies for hanging a stocking without a mantel or fireplace:

  • Birch tree wood slices {I found mine at Michael’s for around $5.00 each, here are some similar larger ones}
  • Metal hooks in any finish you like — this 6-pack is a great value
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Command Strips

Steps for hanging stockings without a mantel or fireplace:

1) Position your hook in the center of your wood slice and mark the screw holes.  Then, drill pilot holes on the spots you have marked.

2) Attach your hook.

3) Follow the instructions on the Command Strips, positioning your strip in the middle of your wood slice.

4) Finally, attach the strips to your fireplace or wall.  Again, be careful to follow the instructions provided by Command to ensure good adhesion.

Done! How easy is that?!  And remember, if you don’t have a fireplace, you could place these anywhere.

I’m sad to say I hadn’t yet figured out this solution for the photo below, therefore I nailed the birch pieces to the wall, and then had to repair the nail holes. 🙁 But I included the photo to show that they look great on a typical sheetrock/paint wall.

So, the possibilities are endless!  Don’t go without hanging your stockings just because you don’t have a fireplace or mantel!  I love the way this looks on our fireplace, and they would be equally beautiful on a traditional brick or wood fireplace or wherever you want to hang them!
