Living Room Reveal (Finally!)
I have been meaning to show you the living room from Texas for ages, um a year to be almost exact. I know, and I call myself a blogger? Bad Blogger! Post contains affiliate links.

The truth is I just haven’t had the time to sit down and go through it all, and I have been hoping to get the column tutorial up, but Justin has been seriously busy and that is his job… so I have been holding back, but we have it finished so I will be posting it tomorrow!! YAY for my man! We have yet to do an arch tutorial, so we will see when and if we can get it done. I really want to move forward with our current house (and I still have to show you the family room and Lydia’s room from Texas)… Wow!! Who is a procrastinator, raise your hand? In case you are wondering I am raising my hand, but my head is hanging in shame!…. ugh!
The last time I showed you what everything was looking like it was set up like this, and basically it looked like this right up until I staged the house to move… (look how little Lydia is, she is practically a teenager now, okay only about 2 1/2 but still!)
When I was staging the ENTIRE house in 3 days I really didn’t’ take that many pictures of the during. I think I took two “befores” and then about 200 afters.
I talked a lot about how I was changing up the furniture layout of the this room, and I really liked this layout for living, but for staging, it made the room feel a little small. So I decided to change it up to a pretty standard- sofa against a wall layout, all boring but it worked. The sofa pictured above we actually gave to our friend. We purchased an Ikea sofa for our family room (upstairs) and moved the sofa’s from upstairs down. Then we covered it with a slightly different cover, also from uglysofa.com. We also changed out the rug, but I told you about that at the link.
Here are the few during pictures, I wanted a large art piece on the wall… because yes, I still just had that one picture push pinned to the wall (I am nothing if not tolerant of imperfections of my space…) I had this art work, in a frame, but I didn’t love the art, so I took out the original art and looked for a new panel to put into the frame, which was a pretty standard size.. but, first I spray painted it with Rustoleum Metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze paint.

We found a great piece of art at Kirklands (still available for now). It was actually a little small for the frame so we painted some strips of wood black and nailed them to the side of the art, and it fit in the frame like a charm, You can see the framed art below.
I decided to ignore the wainscoting for hanging the art, and hung it where I felt it wasn’t too high. (I also did that in this small hallway and I like how it turned out) This might bug some people but I really liked it- I felt like a rebel, and since I’ve always been a pretty good girl, I guess I have to get my kicks out of breaking implied interior decorating rules.

The rug is from Overstock, the Ivory Floral Rug.
This chair was part of a set of two chairs that I got for free during my college internship, they got crushed in shipping and my hubby and I fixed them.

I painted one black WAY BACK when I first stated this blog, but I ended up giving it to a friend. Now this one was bugging me too! Especially since the wood table next to it made it feel to matchy-matchy. So, I got a little crazy, and spray painted it bright yellow… keyword bright(couldn’t find a more mellow yellow spray paint) and please no follow the yellow brick road jokes guys! I still love it. And heck it can be painted again whenever I feel like it.

So that is it for before pictures, so here are the after pictures, a few overall shots first, and then a virtual avalanche of other pictures… sorry for the overload. I am sick on narrowing down images!

So what do you think?

oh cassity! i LOVE it! looks amazing- the colors are beautiful and the rug ties it all together perfectly!
Thank you Cassie! That made my morning! (p.s. are you going to Haven? I would love to finally meet you in real life!)
WOW!! Looks amazing!! I love how it all came together!
THANK YOU!!!!
I love the ottoman! Where did it come from?
Shoot! I don’t actually have a source. I bought it about 8 years ago when I was working for an interior designer, so I got it wholesale and I can’t remember who the company was.
I’m swooning over the whole space! Especially those pretty blue pillows! They look like woven cerulean blue ribbon. I may try to DIY it. Hmmm…. beautiful space all around though! Its a shame it had to be left!
I know!!! I was sad to leave, but happy that at least I got the room done!
I love the room! Love it! It’s so put together and comfortable, which is key for my family. Honestly my favorite is the yellow chair! I bought some yellow paint for a table but I’m kind of scared because it looks more like the Golden Arches yellow than I wanted.
I felt the same way, but I was really happy in the end! Go for it!
Hey – I was just wondering if you could tell me the length of the wall that your couch is on, your room looks beautiful BTW! I love the crisp white…
Alyssa, I think it was 14′ but subtract a foot for the bookcase portion.
I LOVE the colorful flower rug. Can you please tell me where it is from? Also, the slipcover on my sofa does not look nearly this good! Is there a trick to making them look great?
Dana, I know that is one of my favorite rugs. Cassity got it at overstock. You can read about it here. About the slipcover, Cassity sprayed it with water and tightened the cover as she did it. You can read about the cover here. I hope that helps.
It looks amazing!! Love what you did!! Beautiful!!
Where did you find the leather ottoman? That is exactly what I’m looking for right now!!
Ashley, sorry, we don’t have a source for that. Cass got it at an internship she did in college.
You guys are amazing, truly. Your TX living room is a dream come true–so lovely. We still want to get together–life is crazy and it will probably keep on that way! How are your next few weeks lookin’? Any available Fridays or Saturdays?!
Katie, good to hear from you. We have family comming to town in a few weeks, but we will have to get together soon.
Love it! I especially love the wall with the window. It looks so polished and you really utilized that whole wall either as storage or for visual interest.
Thanks for the nice comment Jennifer.
I love what you all have done with this house – I just don’t know how you are able to leave it behind when you’ve turned it into such a masterpiece. You all have a definite eye for style and I love looking at the changes you’ve made to your home(s).
Bev, it was not easy to leave, but it was worth moving closer to family.
Oh, Cassity, I love, love LOVE your spaces! I am such a huge fan of the dark wood against white woodwork, and all the molding, and don’t even get me started on the stairs. We have a similar staircase, and I’ve been working hard to convince my husband to build your custom newel posts to add some character. You guys did an amazing job.
Question: Did you paint all of your interior doors black, or just the ones in the main living area? I ask because we live in a split level, and I really want to paint the doors in our separate entryway black, but I don’t know if it would be weird to leave the doors to the bedrooms, bathrooms, closets, etc. white. I love the way yours look!
Oh, and btw (starting to feel like a groupie here…sorry!) hubs and I built your two person farmhouse desk on Sunday. I still have to hit the base with a coat of Annie Sloan Pure White, but I’m already smitten with it. I’ll leave a link when we finally get around to blogging it…thanks for sharing the plans!
Rachel, we did paint all of our doors black. They looked awesome and we will do it again. Can’t wait to see the finished desk. Glad the plans worked out.
I love your site and have spent hours reading previous postings. You tell often of “staging” your house, and the before and afters are equally beautiful so why do you change rugs and spend money when you know your moving? We are military and going to have to sell in yearish so need advice or even some good websites you might recommend so I can start thinking/working on the all- to- soon move. Thanks you for taking the time for remodelaholic!
Heather, one of the reasons that we spend the money when we know we are moving is because we love doing it. We love how the projects turn out and it makes great pictures for our blog. Good luck with the move next year.
Thoroughly impressed! The trim work is incredible. Blown away. Congrats!
Thanks John! We LOVE moldings!
Such a great room filled with color and personality!
Thanks Korrie!!!
We should talk about furniture sometime! Maybe I could have you redo a piece for me or something! (Do you do custom pieces?)
I would love to work on something for you, Cassity, but I’m guessing you don’t remember I’m in Washington rather than Utah now!
No! i didn’t know you moved! Such a bummer, when did you guys move?
6 months ago…the week before Christmas!
Love the corner shelves! Love your boldness! And the yellow chair, and the tips for spray painting just almost anything. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your lovely home,
–Karen
I LOVE the chair still. It looks great with my decor even in my tiny apartment. 🙂 I lvoe the yellow chair. It looks fantastic. Miss you.
We are glad that you love it! Thanks for the comment! How are the kitty/kitties?
where did you get the new rug?
Ms Vee, we got it at overstock.com
I love the way your living room has turned out! I have been eyeing that same rug for my home for a while, except my dream curtains are white with thin black morroccan (this fabric https://www.etsy.com/listing/117761248/duralee-matteo-14×24-lumbar-pillow-cover). I guess it would look very ecletic. I am afraid, though, that it will go beyong eclectic and clash. Since you have the rug, what do you think?
Cheers and TIA for your opinion!
