Remodelaholic in Review, September 2013
October is here! Fall is here! And Halloween is coming! We were busy in September, and we have big plans for October. You can keep up with all of the “behind the scenes” action by following me on Instagram. Get gems like my cute girls and their froyo faces and Halloween touches on Barbie’s Dream Mansion… plus sneak peaks of our upcoming projects and other fun tidbits from our day-to-day lives.
And don’t forget — we are looking for contributors! Come check it out and apply!
And now… the rest of what we did in September. I was so thrilled to spend some time hopping around the DIY world.
- Shannon from Sewing Barefoot asked for some DIY advice, so get my advice and read more from other great DIY bloggers here.
- I shared some fun last-minute summer DIYs, easy seasonal decorating swaps, and tips for an organized entry over at Wayfair.
- Homes.com did a special feature about me and my home and DIY philosophy.
- And, as if I weren’t blushing enough… did you see a familiar face in this month’s issue of Better Homes and Gardens?!?
Yup, that’s me! (Thanks to Autumn for the pic!)
And then we’ve also been working hard launching a new site called Tipsaholic. Come check it out! We have great articles such as
Ways to Add New Life to an Old Space | How to Create a Great Kids Reading Nook | Winterizing Your Summer Garden
But, even with all that going on, we weren’t slacking off here on the blog, either. Here’s the review of what happened on Remodelaholic this month! You can click on the links or the pictures to see the original post.
Bark Mulch Around Trees
In our ever-developing backyard, we showed you how we prepped and used mulch to control the weeds…
Fall Flowers
…how we planted some lovely fall color from Home Depot…
Seat Wall and Fire Pit
… and how we designed and built our curved seat wall and our fire pit (which we love to roast marshmallows around!)
DIY Shutters
Elsewhere around the house, we also built and installed DIY shutters on our new windows — for under $40 per pair! Get the tutorial here.
Built-In Closet Hack
And then in my oldest daughter’s room, we turned some old random furniture into a great built-in closet… totally necessary since we turned her closet into an awesome bed nook.
Fall and Halloween Mantel
And in my living room, I decorated my mantel, finally! Come see our fall and Halloween decor.
New Living Room Rug
AND I got a new rug in my living room, that I love, love, love. Come see more of how the room is looking now!
Caramel Nutella Popcorn + 25 More Nutella Recipes
And, from my kitchen, another great Nutella recipe: Caramel Nutella Popcorn. (Plus 25 more great Nutella recipes here!)
Pinterest Party and Home Depot Giveaway
Some of my best bloggy friends and I created an awesome Pinterest board called The One-Stop DIY Shop — the best of Pinterest, all in one place! To celebrate, you know, being awesome, we held an amazing Pinterest Party with lots of great prizes, games, and giveaways (including this Home Depot Giveaway). Thanks to everyone who partied with us and made it SO much fun! We will be doing another Pinterest Party soon (before Christmas) so keep an eye out for an announcement about that.
Get This Look and Design Tips
As usual, we love rounding up and sharing great home and design tips and inspiration. We added 3 new posts to our Get This Look library:
Neutral Rustic Bedroom | Living Room Built-Ins | Small But Luxurious Kitchen
And we gave you some ideas for kids’ room art, tips for designing kids’ spaces, inspiring outdoor window treatments, and a winter prep checklist for your home.
Top 10 And Link Parties
We have had some really amazing and record-breaking Remodelaholics Anonymous link parties in September! Mark your calendars and come join every Friday! We share a Top Ten along with the link party, and this month we shared our favorite washi tape home decor ideas, fall mantel elements, and diy mailboxes.
Plus I was so thrilled to host the Habitat for Humanity Before and After party with Jocie from One Project Closer.
Contributors and Guests
We always have wonderful contributors and guests! (If you’d like to be one of them, apply to be a contributor here or submit a project for a guest feature here.)
Ruth from What’s Cooking With Ruthie shared this delicious Banana Oatmeal Cake.
Jen from Bakerette gave us the recipe for this divine Orange Chicken.
And then our amazing guests…
Rachel from lovetodecor8 shared her beautiful small kitchen remodel (love that slate backsplash!).
Jen from De Jong Dream House shared her 3-in-1 flex room that is a guest suite, room for two, and play room.
This gorgeous woven back bench came to us from Korrie of Red Hen Home.
And Mimi from Blue Roof Cabin shared how she upgraded her boring builder grade cabinets by building this awesome plate rack shelf.
Busy busy month! What was your favorite part?
I *did* notice you in BH&G! Congrats on the shout-out 😉
Thanks Korrie! That pretty much made my life! I have been reading BHG since high school… now if I can just get a design feature, that will be another dream come true~
